The new center combines FDA-cleared TMS with counseling, psychiatry, and support groups. Most insurance plans are accepted, and a sliding fee scale is available
WEST PALM BEACH, FL, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Alpert Jewish Family Service (Alpert JFS) opened the Neil S. Hirsch TMS Center this morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its West Palm Beach offices. Donors, community leaders, and funding partners toured the new TMS suite and watched a live demonstration.
The center offers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), an FDA-cleared, noninvasive treatment for adults with depression, depression accompanied by anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) who have not found relief through medication and psychotherapy. The center begins seeing patients on Tuesday, October 6.
TMS has been FDA-cleared for depression since 2008, yet for many people it remains out of reach. A full course of treatment typically costs several thousand dollars, and many insurance plans cover it only after patients have tried and failed multiple antidepressants.
Alpert JFS is committed to removing cost as a barrier to care. The center was made possible through a generous donation from the Neil S. Hirsch Foundation through the Foundation for the Advancement of Clinical TMS. Alpert JFS is only the third nonprofit organization in the nation to receive this type of grant. Most insurance plans are accepted, and the grant allows the center to offer care on a sliding fee scale for patients who otherwise could not afford treatment.
The center now becomes an integral part of a full-service mental health agency that has served Palm Beach County since 1974, allowing clients to remain connected to counseling, psychiatry, and support groups during and after treatment.
“TMS gives us another door to open and a new reason to be hopeful,” said Dr. Elaine Rotenberg, Chief Clinical and Strategy Officer at Alpert JFS. “When people are struggling with depression or anxiety, other parts of their lives are often affected as well. The availability of comprehensive services such as counseling, psychiatry, food support, senior services, disability services, and emergency assistance within one agency allows us to seamlessly guide individuals toward the healthiest and most effective next step.”
TMS uses brief, focused magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. There is no surgery or anesthesia. Patients remain awake throughout treatment and can drive themselves to and from appointments. A full course typically consists of approximately 36 sessions over six weeks.
“Mental health is one of the most pressing needs facing Palm Beach County, and it is a major priority for Federation,” said Michael Hoffman, President and CEO of Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. “The Neil S. Hirsch TMS Center at Alpert JFS is a powerful example of how investing in the health and well-being of our Jewish community can benefit people of all backgrounds throughout the broader community. Federation is proud to support Alpert JFS and its commitment to expanding access to mental health care for people throughout Palm Beach County.”
“Brain health is health care, and it is time to remove the stigma that prevents people from seeking treatment,” said Patrick McNamara, President and CEO of Palm Health Foundation. “By bringing groundbreaking technologies to those who need them most, we can transform lives and help make South Florida the Brain Coast, where innovation, research, and compassionate care come together.”
